Gateway pre-deployment checklist

Snape 2.0Version 1.1 · 6 November 2026KC-01-001
This guide is for Snape 2.0. Other versions: Snape 1.0.

ACKCIO GATEWAY · Applies to Gateway hardware v3.6 and later

1Attach Antennas

  • Attach short black (RF/Mesh) antenna to the RF port on the TOP of the Gateway: ensure vertically oriented
  • Attach short black antenna to the RF (LoRa) port on the side of the Gateway: ensure vertically oriented
  • Connect black cylindrical antenna using labelled cables: WiFi → WiFi port · GSM → GSM port

Incorrect antenna connections will disable the WiFi hotspot and cellular data.

2Insert SIM Card (only if using cellular data)

  • Insert a nano SIM card: use a 3G/4G retail-based SIM only (public or private IP)

5G SIM cards are NOT supported. Use 3G/4G only.

3Power the Gateway

Wall socket

  • Ackcio-supplied 12V 3A adaptor only
  • Route cable through cable glands
  • Screw gland firmly for IP68 protection
  • Confirm 12V+ and GND polarities

Solar setup (minimum specs)

  • 100W solar panel · 12V charge controller
  • 12V / 18 to 20 Ah rechargeable battery
  • Weatherproof enclosure for GW, controller & battery

4Install Backup Battery

  • Insert 3.6V ER34615 D-Cell Li-SOCl2 battery before powering ON: check polarity as labelled on Gateway

Brands: Tadiran, EVE · Backup only: low-power mode during outages. Full operation resumes when main power restored.

HW 3.6: skip this step. The backup battery holder is disabled on HW 3.6 only. It applies to all other hardware versions.

5Best Placement for Maximum Coverage

Place Gateway at a central location with line of sight to as many nodes as possible, reduces hops, improves reliability, minimises need for repeaters.

ClearanceRule
5 to 10 ft minAs high as possible
≥ 12 inFrom walls/obstructions
≥ 12 inFrom other antennas
≥ 18 in / 10 ftFrom metal / power lines

6Power ON & Verify LEDs

  • Turn ON switch: bleeding red light from the right gap confirms power is live
  • Wait ~60 sec for boot. Gateway is ready when WF turns solid green with SYS and RF blinking alternately. NET will only light up when a SIM card is inserted, active and working.

If Gateway does not boot: use a multimeter to confirm 12V at the power terminals.

Failure to follow this checklist may result in poor or interrupted signal. Contact the Ackcio technical team at [email protected] if unclear.
